Description
Thirlmere, is a lake in the lake district in Cumbria. It is 3.5 miles long, 1.2 mile wide and 158 feet deep, was originally two smaller lakes but the area was dammed in 1894 with a dam whose greatest height is 104 feet, and the area became one vast reservoir. The Conifer clad reservoir, in the shadows of Helvellyn, provides the city of Manchester with it's water.
